Birds of a Feather

Well, I finished the finch piece just a bit ago, and I'm now having lunch at the cafe in my building. I had finished the quilting yesterday, but I didn't care for all that brown on the outside too dull and flat. So, this morning, I started going at it with paintstiks. Believe it or not, the first layer was pink, then red, then blue, then purple, then finally gold!

I think it turned out pretty good! I don't normally do feathers, but seeing as though there are birds in the piece, it seemed wrong not to!

Here are some close ups:

You might notice that the brown is different. It is, I added a brown paintstik color on top of it to create the appearance of more depth for the feathers. Sometimes, when you've gotten a top done and started adding the details, you might find that one of the fabrics seems to no longer be working with the rest of the piece.

A lot of people give up at that point, because they "don't like it". There's no need for that! With paint sticks, paint, markers, and decorative elements like angelina fibers, there is no reason to "accept" a fabric that isn't working. You have so many options at your disposal to gently push a fabric to cooperate with the rest!

Besides, if you hate the piece, it couldn't get much worse, right?

About finished with my lunch now, then it's back to work. Have a great day!

I love what you did with the paint sticks! Thanks for sharing this. I'm one of those people who sets something aside if I'm not liking it. Than it's out of sight out of mind. Just like a toddler! LOL Not any more. Love the way you stick with things until they are finished. You are an inspiration to me!
