Getting Ready

I've spent the day doing laundry, getting ready to pack for Hawaii. I'm so excited to be going, and my heart can't wait to be near the ocean again. My one regret, is that I will be missing the start of fall here in Minnesota. It is my absolute favorite season, followed by winter! These tend to be my two most productive seasons. Most people tend to find spring and summer their most creative times, I guess I'm just different? Ha!

I am also going to miss Stew (my studio..yes, it's named! lol) Perhaps the local quilt store there will let me ogle?

Some exciting news around these parts! Yesterday morning I waited in line at the Textile Center in order to get into an Ikea quilt challenge! They are partnering with the Textile Center in Minneapolis to raise money for youth programs, and are using a quilt auction to do so! There were only 50 spots, and we each got 1 yard of 4 different fabrics. The fabrics are CHALLENGING! And I am sure that I will be going to Ikea when I get back to purchase some pieces to fit into or swap out what I have. So I am looking forward to working on that when I come home. (There is a $50 gift certificate if the piece is done by an early date.) The main prize?? A $1,000 studio makeover from Ikea!! (*DROOL*)

I will be picking up my piece from the state fair this afternoon, and am anxious to read what they've said and how it scored. I'm also trying to buck up and put on a thicker skin before I get it and read it!

My challenge of the day, will be to "pack lightly". Actually, it's more like asking for an act of God. I am terrible about that, I would bring my entire house on vacations with me if I could. I am trying very hard to remember that we have access to a washer and dryer and that should reduce how much I need!

My goals for Hawaii:

  • Finish what I call the "Death Hike" that I was unable to finish the last time I went to Hawaii
  • Get another Lomi Lomi massage
  • Read, read, read
  • Snorkeling
  • Journal - focusing on what I want in life, why I collect "things" and where I see myself in another two years
  • Have fun!
I'm sure that I will be trying to blog when we are there, we will have high speed internet, so I won't have to try to do it from my phone! *clap*

Now I am off to get my shower, get my quilt, pick up some info about a grant, and pick up a book from Barnes!

This is the Squid piece that I have been working on. :) Sorry it's still in the Q-Snap, so it's a bit hard to see what's going on. Enjoy!
