Finding The Beauty In A Minnesota Winter

My best friend and I went up to the North Shore on Duluth/Two Harbors area this weekend, in search of the beauty of Minnesota winters. By this time of the winter season, I am just sick, sick, sick of winter! It's March and I'm ready for spring.

Well, we got into the car Friday morning, originally thinking we'd head to Rochester. But, somewhere
between breakfast and actually hitting the freeway, we decided to go to Superior insetad. Well, once in Superior, we decided on Duluth! And boy, it's awesome that we did. We stayed at an awesome hotel called Canal Park Lodge, right on the lake!

I have to admit, I didn't know whether to expe
ct the lake to be frozen, or open. Turns out, it's both! In fact, in recorded history, it is only known to have frozen over completely twice since the 1800s, but in 2003 I think, it was 98% frozen!

I woke up the next morning to a beautiful sunrise!

Then we headed further along the North Shore and saw some spectacular views at Split Rock Lighthouse.

We saw several of these girls too...

Also found a lovely quilt shop called Quilter's Cabin in Two Harbors. They have have TONS of charms squares, which I am addicted to, and I saw they are starting to carry the larger sized ones, I think are called cakes or something to that effect. They are 10" square charms!

Picked up several of the charm packets! Yay!

All in all, it was an amazing trip that really helped with the cabin fever disease! :)

Hey! I didn't know you were blogging. I just found your comment about charitable knitting on another blog. I was so flabbergasted reading some of those nasty comments, and so happy to read the voice of reason from someone I know.
